Through a Denial of Service (DoS) attack, a computer or server (of a website, for example) can be massively bombarded with data traffic, requests or disruptions. These crash or flood attacks render the computer or server (temporarily) unusable.
In a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS for short) attack, the attacker uses more than 1 sender (usually large network of hacked computers) for his DoS attack.
